Brad Tidwell, Republican Delegate Candidate for the 53rd District, was recently interviewed by the Sun Gazette, a local newspaper covering the Falls Church and Fairfax areas.

We recently got the chance to sit down with Brian Trompeter, the staff writer for the Sun Gazette, and talk about the issues driving our campaign for Delegate. The full interview gives some good insight into why Brad is running for delegate, his core issues of Taxes, Transportation and Transparency, and his focus for the future of Falls Church and Fairfax. There’s also some good background information about Brad’s history of public service to the community. An excerpt from the story:

Tidwell, 26, is one of three candidates seeking to succeed longtime Del. James Scott (D), who is not seeking re-election. Democrat Marcus Simon and Libertarian Anthony Tellez also will be on the ballot in the Nov. 5 election.
Tidwell said he will focus on “Three T’s”: transparency, transportation and taxes.
“I think people see the government as a black box where you put in money and basically roads and schools pop out,” he said.
Virginia has good disclosure laws already, but Tidwell said he would like to make budget documents readily accessible to the public via the Web.
Tidwell desires to simplify the tax code and lower tax rates overall in order to stimulate the economy. He also would like to see Virginia’s transportation needs analyzed carefully to ensure resources are expended where the needs are greatest.
“Even with all the construction going on now, after it’s all completed, we’ll be in a worse traffic situation than we are now,” he said.

Brad Tidwell, the Republican nominee for Virginia’s 53rd district, walked in the annual 4th of July parade in Fairfax on Main Street with the support of the Fairfax County Republican Committee. Tidwell and his volunteers handed out hundreds of American flags and fliers to children and passers-by on the parade route. Tidwell walked with other 2013 Virginia Republican candidates for office, Ken Cuccinelli, Patrice Winters and Freddy Burgos.

“It was good to see so many people in the community celebrating the founding of our country,” said Tidwell. “We had a strong presence at this event, and I really enjoyed interacting with voters on a personal level. The response from the community has been fantastic, in large part thanks to the help of our dedicated volunteers.”

Tidwell and his supporters concluded the day at the George Mason High School’s annual July 4th Independence Day Celebration at the Moore Cadillac Stadium. There, they handed out hundreds more fliers to local community members. “We were able to introduce the campaign to a lot of local voters in a personal way,” continued Tidwell. “The reception was terrific, and the fireworks made for a great end to the evening.”

Attendees of the Brad Tidwell for Delegate Kickoff Event

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Vote Tidwell for Delegate Campaign Kickoff last night! We had a wonderful event, with people coming from all over the district to attend.

Both of our GOP chairmen came- Jay McConville from Fairfax County Republican Committee and Ken Feltman from Falls Church City Republican Committee. We also had a guest appearance by Evan Draim, the youngest delegate to the 2012 Republican National Convention.

Jay and Ken introduced my remarks, where I introduced some of the key issues I’ll be discussing throughout the campaign: transparency, taxes and transportation. I stressed the importance of communicating directly with voters, accountability in government, and investment in the future.

Thanks again to everyone who came out. Between the introductions, great conversations, kind words and generous contributions, I couldn’t be more excited about the future of this race. We’ll have more events to announce in the near future, so stay tuned.

Vote Well,

-Brad Tidwell
